What People Are Saying
from Google"I've been wanting to visit Elvio's for quite a while and finally took the trip today. What a vibe! The inside is cozy and they had a live musician playing who was talented and charming. My trip had two major missions: 1) get some pastel de natas and 2) get a breakfast sandwich. It was super crowded inside so I sat down at the last remaining table while I told my husband to go up and get us some drinks, a muffin, and some natas. I planned to look at the menu online to determine which sandwich I wanted while he did that. The menu is totally inaccessible! There is no online menu (the page I clicked goes to a 404 not found message) and you can only do the "online ordering" version of the menu, which gives names to the drinks, food items, and sandwiches with NO EXPLANATION OF WHAT THEY ARE. So did I want a Briana or a BLAT or a Funchal?? How would I know as there is absolutely no descriptions of what the ingredients are. Especially as a vegetarian, this is important, since I know Portuguese food is meat heavy. They did have a "build your own sandwich" but again, no idea what the options even were. I then walked up and asked if they had any paper menus I could look at to see what the items were, and they said no. There was a digital menu over the counter, but there were so many people crowded in there and it was too anxiety producing to determine which choices were vegetarian, that after eating our pastries and drinking our coffees, I left to get a breakfast sandwich elsewhere instead. I would totally come back for those natas (100/10 - amazing, delicious) and coffee, but not for food."
"A new coffee shop right by the water! The view outside of the shop was beautiful. There were lots of seating inside. They had a lot of interesting fall drinks and tons of interesting baked goods. The breakfast sandwich was premade and kept in a case. It was a decent size, and with good flavors. But it would have been nice if it was made to order, because the bread was a little dry. I also tried the egg tart. The custard had a hint of lemon taste which I liked. The crust was nice and flakey. The inside had interesting rock band decorations if that’s what you are into. The music playing was kind of loud so it was hard to hear my friend over the music."
"After reading all the 5 star reviews we couldn’t wait to check this place out. When we arrived there was zero acknowledgement from the staff. They saw us and completely ignored us but all the other customers that came in got a “hello” If Elvio’s was buzzing then I would understand the lack of acknowledgment but it felt like if your face doesn’t fit you don’t get acknowledged. The tables were dirty @ 08:20 (this place opens at 08:00). We ordered the Pastel De Nata Latte, Boule De Mel Latte and a Chocolate Croissant. It’s a shame that our lattes tasted of nothing. The Chocolate Croissant was fresh out of the oven and didn’t have any layers. It was stodgy. Would be more useful as a door stopper. We didn’t bother to complain about the Croissant to the staff as they didn’t seem approachable. On a positive the 3 stars are for ample seating indoors and outdoors and the view of the bay."
"Elvios has amazing food and a lot of options for food and drinks. Their drink menu rotates regularly and quite tasty. They have a good amount of seating, happy hours in the morning, music on weekends, and they have a drinks reward program."
"Such an incredible spot. Everything was wonderful, the atmosphere right off the bat was super inviting and I love the live music. The staff are very kind and had good recommendations. The food and drinks really made me happy :) I moved to Rochester a couple years ago and have struggled to find stuff that reminded me of the quality and variety of food I was spoiled with back west. This place is one of the few that has done it for me. The espresso is delicious and I love their specials. The food is beautifully presented and elevated but super approachable, you’re getting a high quality experience in a more relaxed environment. And I love that you can see into the kitchen, something about the staff wearing more traditional chef garments delighted me. The vibe here is very chill while remaining classy and the view over the lake can’t be beat. Seeing Elvio chat happily with customers in the dining area made the whole thing feel very communal, and I love that it’s a family run business. So glad we have a place like this here."
