from Google & Yelp"Zaruma was recommended to us by some “locals” as a great place for coffee. It didn’t disappoint. We each had a cappuccino which was superb. All the cakes (other than the croissants), are made fresh on site. We enjoyed a delicious scone. The staff are very friendly, and the cafe is clean and tidy. Happy to recommend if you are looking for a decent coffee and fresh food."
"As an Ecuadorian, I feel a sense of joy when I discover a place where I can reconnect with familiar flavors, especially the delightful memories that a great cup of coffee can bring. Café Zaruma is not only a spot to enjoy truly amazing coffee, but it's also the perfect place to try traditional dishes like bolón, which can be made with cheese or bacon, and tigrillo, made with green plantain and cheese, among other ingredients. One of the best ways to savor these dishes is with a cup of black coffee. If you’re looking for more options, they offer a wide menu featuring various coffee flavors, breads, and pastries. In addition to their delicious coffee, you must try the coffee sourced from Zaruma’s rich land, known for producing some of the most remarkable beans. The owner and her team are incredibly kind, and the atmosphere is fantastic! The café often showcases artwork on the walls, with many pieces reflecting Ecuadorian culture. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. =)"
"Solid coffee shop in LIC! I believe there’s another location in Brooklyn. I got a cold brew and I liked how it was strong but not bitter. This place is spacious and it looks like you can also dine here for all day breakfast. There’s a couch area and tables along the wall. They also sell flowers/plants. The pastries looked delicious, esp the banana pudding bread which I’d like to try next time. The empanadas however didn’t look too appetizing. Would be a good place to work as well since it’s a bit quiet in the afternoon and the music isn’t blasting."
"A true Ecuadorian gem in New York. I visited the location in Long Island City and absolutely loved it. The place is cozy, and the service from the owners and staff is top-notch. The food is delicious, especially the bolón and the humitas, which are a must-try. They also have a great variety of tasty desserts. I highly recommend this place, as well as their other location in Dumbo, Brooklyn!"
"Zaruma is a spacious and inviting place to relax, see local art, and enjoy their specialty coffee. They have a great foundation, and I appreciate that they listen to customer feedback. They recently removed the unexpected hot pepper flakes from their avocado toast, showing a willingness to improve. However, the execution of my food order was disappointing on this visit. Despite the restaurant being very slow, my request was completely ignored. I specifically asked for a non-runny egg for health concerns, but it arrived with a completely runny yolk. My expectation is that the staff member who takes the order should be responsible for ensuring it aligns with the request, especially one clearly stated like this, and not just rely on the kitchen to do it right. When simple, non-busy orders are delivered incorrectly, it feels like a failure of service and quality control. I hope the management can seriously address this inconsistency. Until the front-of-house staff and kitchen can consistently deliver basic orders as requested, it remains an average stop."
