What People Are Saying
from Google & Yelp"Undergrounds Coffee in South Buffalo is the real deal — one of the last truly cute, neighborhood coffee shops left around here, and it hits you with that instant nostalgia of what coffee culture used to feel like before everything got homogenized by Starbucks and Tim Hortons. It’s warm, human, and genuinely local in the best way — the kind of place where the vibe isn’t “designed,” it’s earned. What really stands out is how much they’re actively supporting all sorts of wonderful local coffee environments and community makers. You can tell they’ve gone well out of their way to back the local scene in a meaningful, intentional way — and it goes well beyond just Zurowski. In a time when it’s getting harder and harder for small businesses to not only survive but thrive, it’s honestly refreshing to see a place like this doing it right. The team was fantastic — welcoming, respectful, and just… good people. No attitude, no rush-you-along energy, just genuine hospitality. The coffee was excellent (the kind you actually remember after you leave), and the merchandise section is dangerously fun — thoughtfully curated, super giftable, and clearly built with taste. And the food menu? Surprisingly impressive. Super healthy, really great options, and it actually feels aligned with the place: organic, locally sourced, community-minded. It’s not “healthy” as a trend — it’s healthy with purpose. Underground Coffee is a gem. It’s the kind of shop that reminds you why neighborhood coffee spots matter — and why we should support the ones that are still brave enough to build culture instead of chasing convenience. If you’re anywhere near South Buffalo, go. And maybe grab some merch while you’re at it… you’ve been warned."
"I tried this breakfast sandwich because a friend told me it was the "best in Buffalo." That's why I was understandably shocked to see them microwaving everything but the bagel. It was OK. Similar to what you would get at Tim Hortons, just a little bigger. I did enjoy the approcot jam and the coffee was delicious, but way too hot. My coffee was poured a half hour ago and I'm still having trouble sipping it."
"Always friendly staff any time I go. The breakfast wraps are delicious and always hit the spot. The coffee is good. Would take this place over any Tim Hortons any day. Try them out."
"I ordered a salad a few days ago and it was so spectacular that I had to come back again and get the same salad. The customer service is excellent and everyone that works there is very friendly. Definitely worth the time effort in trip."
"Just visited here for the first time from O-H. Ordered a flavored iced coffee & the breakfast sandwich named after my great aunt! Absolutely incredible, with homemade artisanal blackberry jam embedded! My wife also picked out the RBG roast and we took with us a cake pop/ cookie for our daughter’s 17th birthday. Turns out that my great grandfather once used this space as a pharmacy on the first level and lived above. Appears to be original black/ white tile and wood flooring; the history of this place is alive and well. Everyone was very friendly- would love to visit again next time we’re in WNY. The owners are obviously doing it right- their community impact, celebrating women connected to Buffalo, and ensuring that environmental impact is minimal. Really enjoyed the wall of coffee mugs, dog treat offerings, and overall decor, as well. I’ve additionally attached a photo of the letter addressed to Frank re: Jean’s service (sent to this exact address), American Red Cross bronze medal, awarded posthumously, & a copy of what was a confidential correspondence in connection to the circumstances of Jean’s untimely passing. Pretty interesting… Highly recommend that anyone in the area supports this business! Thanks so much!"
"This place is awesome! Best breakfast Sandwich I've had in a long time. I was a little sad it was deli ham instead of carved for a $10 sandwich but once I..."
