"This coffee shop is so special to me! The couple who runs it are the sweetest pair in the whole world. You can really see their dedication to the cafe. Their pistachio cake changed my life! Probably one of my favorite sweets ever in the world. I also love their cold brew and ham and cheese croissant. I actually tried their egg sandwich on a brioche bun the other day and it was phenomenal. They are probably the most underrated bakery ever! I love chatting with them too. All around just such a gem!"

"Of all the coffee and pastry shops popping up in Astoria, many are good, few are great, and only one rises above the rest to be a true original. Make Believe bakeshop has fantastic baked goods, with solid flavors that exceed expectations. I had a pumpkin walnut scone and it was both rich and nuanced with spices and flavors that were a delight and unexpectedly complex. The drip coffee here has great notes and taste. And the people working the shop are kind, thoughtful, and incredibly welcoming and community oriented. Don’t waste your time at the other shops popping up on Astoria Blvd, if you can only go to one, this is the place."

"Had a brownie and a chocolate chip cookie, and both were fantastic. My son said the coffee is super (I am not a coffee drinker). Definitely will be there again soon. Back again. Blueberry crumble is amazing! Back again - amazing iced chocolate drink, fantastic egg bites! Best cinnamon roll I have ever eaten.... Back again in 2025. They are selling their dog treats! You can keep puppy happy even in the evening now!"

"What a wonderful warm welcoming place! The moment I entered, the baker in the back who was very busy took the time to say hello and make eye contact while her colleague rushed over to help. Amazing service. The guy is very friendly and informative and really knows his stuff. I enjoyed learning about their awesome pastries baked on site! The carrot cake zucchini loaf is incredible and easily the best loaf I have had in memory. The lemon bar also looked fantastic, also baked here which I shall return for in the near future. The tea combinations are what blew my mind. They carry a unique tea brand from an iconic midtown spice shop and they combine the teas in a thoughtful manner. I have visited hundreds of coffeeshops in NYC and have never encountered this before Make Believe. Very cool spot, with very cool people and equally awesome stuff ☕️ 🫖 🥮"

"This place is incredible. The baked goods are DELICIOUS. Chocolate chip cookies, babka, and the seasonal apple cider donut muffin are favorites. The coffee is one of my favorites, and the lattes are flavorful and not too sweet. Friendly staff and a welcoming environment, what’s not to love?"
